Dear friends, as providence would have it, less than a week after my blog post on praying for those who may die suddenly or unprepared, Jim, my own dear husband of 42 years passed away after a chronic illness. The fingerprints of God, his graces and blessings, are all over this event. I am so grateful for those graces, most especially, the following…

+ That I had time to pray a Divine Mercy chaplet in his presence at the hospital unaware that he would not be coming home the next day.

+ That even thought he was not Catholic, in the months leading up to his death, we prayed almost daily together the prayer to St. Joseph and anointed our foreheads with St. Joseph oil from Montreal.

+ That I woke early that morning and, as I often do when I wake early, repeated this prayer several times: “Holy Mary, Mother of God, spread the effect of grace of Thy Flame of Love over Jim and over all of humanity, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.” As it turned out I was praying this prayer in the final hour of his life. Blessed Mother! Oh Mama! What a gift and sign!

+ Not least of the graces was the grace of those of you who prayed for the souls who would die suddenly or unprepared. You helped my husband in the hour of his death. God bless you!

God is with us, little children! Let us place all our trust in him. Jesus, Mary, Joseph, we love you. Save souls!

  3. Eternal rest grant unto Jim O Lord, And let the perpetual light shine upon him. And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

God is Love, and may the grace of the Flame of Love touch us all.

The thought just dawned on me, when reading your text on the flame of love of the disciples in the upper room (Acts 2:1-3) “AND when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.”

John 14: 16 -17 “And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever. The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him: but you shall know him; because he shall abide with you, and shall be in you.”

1 John 4:7-8 “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

I imagine Jim is now intimately a part of “Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” and has now been reborn to the presence of God who is Love itself.

Janet you and Jim are in my prayers.

  6. I had an odd dream last week that I was to be “matched” to a husband, I had no choice in the matter and I was resigned to the fact. As my “husband’ came forward, I heard the matchmaker say “How did you get in here, this is not right!” I looked up and saw that my “husband” was death. In response to the matchmaker’s question, death laughed and said “I lied! I lied!” and then he took me.
I know that death ends the sufferings of this life and allows us to go to heaven, but it is not what God originally intended. It is the result of a lie, so it hurts, and we grieve.
I pray that Mary stays near to you as you grieve and heal, and I will pray for Jim, that his purgation is short, and that he becomes a powerful intercessor for you.
May God bless you in your sorrow,

  7. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
In the little book entitled “Handbook of Devotion to Divine Mercy” published by Help Us Dry the Tears, there is mention of praying for those dying and destined for eternal damnation. I had never thought of praying for those dying until I worked with thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. But it was my return to praying for those who had died and then I came upon the book and now my prayers are frequent for the dying and those in Purgatory.
So, indeed your husband was in my heart without knowing it, but God certainly did. And everyday and the end of the St Joseph prayer, I pray for him to pray for my departing soul, but then I add to pray for those dying. Then I ask our Blessed Mother (learned this from a wise old lady at church…) to send down 4 Angels around those who are dying and more if needed. She takes care of things.
And may Mary’s mantle and St Joseph’s cloak be around you.

  10. oh my dear Janet! Yanno, when you first wrote about the problems with the blog, I was shocked … felt awful, but didn’t know how to respond. I knew you thought of everything and that your disposition was humble, so what could I say except to express my dismay? But now this .. oh Janet, you have my heartfelt deepest sympathy! No words, please just know you’ll remain in my daily 3pms and I will pray for the repose of your dear husbands soul. I cannot adequately express my sorrow and shock at these events, yet I know God holds you in the Palm of His Hand and will sustain you! *HUGS* ~Mary
